Vintage INDIGO SHiBORI Cotton yukata FABRIC bolt - sold by meter

$30.00

Selling by meter, but entire bolt can be sold. Read the details.

This is a bolt of very finely woven cotton intended for a yukata, a japanese summer kimono. It is dyed with natural indigo to an almost black blue hue, and the fabric is tied shibori in a classic Miura-shibori style, with a very original design. Miura shibori is characterized by more free-form rings that kanoko, larger and bumping into each other, which is easier for most folks to tie up. The fabric has not been steamed or pressed yet, after opening the ties. In japanese, this is called ‘yunoshi mae”, ‘before treating with hot water’. It retains a lot of the folds and a definitely sponginess, stretchiness, from being bound up and dyed. The fabriuc is not stretchy, of course, just seems that way from the remnants of the binding. I even see some of the original tying threads left bound in the fabric in a few spots.

The fabric is in great condition EXCEPT for two holes, very close to each other, which seem to have opened up when the fabric was being untied. (see last photo). The bigger holes run right along side one section of tied shibori, and no doubt this happened when pulling to open up the ties. The fabric weave is very fine, as i have already stated, and so pulling super hard may create tears. These tears are in the second meter of fabric in fro the end of the bolt.

I am offering this fabric for sale by the meter. The entire bolt is 12 meters, so i am listing 11 meters for sale, so as to exclude the ripped section. I am also open to selling the entire bolt at a certain discount. Especially before any has been cut off. I am offering the meters at 30 dollars each, so the entire price SHOULD be 330$, but i will only charge 200$ plus shipping for the entire bolt. Message me at asiadyer@yahoo.com to inquire about that.

This really could be used in so many ways. Get one or two meters as a scarf!! Add patches and stitching and make it your own boro scarf. Christmas presents, or just whenever presents!!! Either make them, or just give the fabric ti that special creator in your life!! Imagine their faces lightening up! You could use it as fabric for really anything. Garments, projects, pillows, quilting, patchwork, you name it! A long panel would even make a great display piece for the wall or draped across furniture, at the end of a bed, it is bound to change the aesthetic.

It smells fine, clean and ready to use.

Sold by the meter, altho because it is stretchy, i will stretch it to measure out a meter, but once it bounces back, it may look shorter. Rest assured you are getting a full meter. : )

The width is 36 cms, when stretched out.

Choose shipping option “regular shipping #1” for standard shipping, or “EMS shipping #1”, for expedited shipping.

Contact me at asiadyer@yahoo.com to inquire about EMS availability to your country if not sure.
