Vintage Painted Wooden Oak FAN set of three - Nezu Ouchiwa

$48.77

This is a set of vintage wooden fans. They are super lightweight and finely crafted. They are all painted with delicate floral scenes in a very Japanese style which reminds me of the paintings on temple ceilings. There are two which are round and one which is longer oval shape. They all are also signed by the artists and stamped with their chops, although I cannot read most of what is written.

These were salvaged from the house of a local tea ceremony sensei. I imagine they were a gift to her, or a souvenir. I would guess from between the 60s to the 80’s, although they may be older. They come in a cardboard folder which was made for them, and is very sturdy, more so that normal cardboard. On the folder is written “Nezu Ouchiwa”, which means uchiwa (fan), and Nezu may refer to the oak that these are made from. I am pretty sure that is what nezu means.

They are in perfect condition, like new. One of the fans has a name written on the back of the handle in red magic marker, so i guess it must be sed. Granted it still is in great shape. But the cardboard folder does have a bit of water staining and foxing.

These would be cool display pieces, or also collection pieces. You can even use these, as fans. There is a refreshing wooden aroma.

dimensions

the paper folder is 35 cms x 25.7 cms

the larger fan is 33 cms high and 21.5 cms wide

The smaller one is 31 cms high by 21.5 cms wide

weight in folder 141 grams

You can tell how thin they are by the sound of the hitting together.
