I LOVE these socks!! I have been wearing this brand exclusively, and dyeing and selling them, for over 20 years now! They are very locally made, made in Aichi Prefecture, outside of Nagoya (about an hour away from me). Mostly cotton (90%), with a base of nylon and urethane for the appropriate flexibility.
I like them the most because of the fit: easy to put on and toes are plenty wide and so easy to get on. You don't have to struggle to get each toe where it needs to go. Many 5 toe sox sold in japan are made in China these days, and I find the size of the toes is what's lacking in these the most, making them frustrating to get on and keep on. Not so with these ones.....
As I said,made in japan, 90% cotton, 10% nylon etc. 42 cms long to the tip of the big toe.
This size is sold as men's, (actually originally marketed towards physical laborers here!). I sell them to both men and women. Up to a size 10, 10.5, I'd say. Anything more is stretching it too far. I am a size 9 super-wide foot and they are great for me. I know also women who wear the same type, from size 23 cms up.. There is no heel knit in, so they can be adjusted for any size foot (within reason).
They can be washed in hot water, with detergent, and in fact should the first few times. Already washed in 70 degree hot water twice, so most of what's gonna come off is already off. But I would also recommend washing with colors the first 5-10 times, just in case.
Dryer OK, just don't totally overdo it, or they may shrink some.
